  Signifies the protective bond between a mother bear and her young, lest we forget that the bear was once a man and cares for and protects its young much like ourselves.

    The frog is said to be the barometer of environmental health. It often takes in harmful polutants and bad spirits and manifests them into its own physical form. This is meant as awarning to us all.
    The totem depicted here is capturing the bad spirit and taking it into itself to protect and warn us of its melevalence.

The Thunderbird is a mythalogical being said to live in the clouds and feed on whales as eagles do salmon. He is reveared as one of the strongest spirits of the Nuu-cha Nulth people. It was believed that the Thunderbird would present chiefs with great gifts of food from the ocean that he was to share with his people.
In the past these stories, spirits and beliefs were faced with the threat of being forgotten but now as we work together to bring native culture back to life these spirits can come back to us. They can become the stories we tell our children and the spirits we thank for prosperity in our lives. Culture has a new breath and a new life.

Wild woman

  The Wild Woman or Dzunakwa is a mythalogical being that prowled the forest. She was said to lure children with tree pitch, which was considered a treat(like chewing gum), the position of the lips represents the kissing sounds she made to beckon to the child. If the children fell for her trickery she would catch them and throw them into a large cedar basket that was strapped to her back. It was said that such children were never seen again. It was an effective device to keep the young children from venturing into the woods.
